midi section
all of my compositions are based on midi files. those in this section are quick composed
ones only for background music purposes of my webpage. as midi files don't carry any
sound information, music quality will vary depending on your sound card and speakers
quality and configuration. check the higher quality of my music in the mp3
section below.

mp3 section
the mp3 files in this section are taken from my double cd "tau ceti" previously produced in
1996. also composed using midi, they're actually not depending on your sound card quality as
the midi files of the upper midi section. i used my own synthesizer equipment to give them
the highest quality i'm able to produce. you'll also find a short preview piece, cause even
mp3 coded files are large and will take quite a while for downloading. still the sound
quality is worse than cd quality. if you're interested to purchase my completely handmade
cd, well, there is an email button in the upper right corner, right? as webspace is
restricted here, i'm not able to present the whole double cd here at once. i'll change the
offered mp3 files from time to time. please check for new ones anytime you like...

program section
by clicking one of the upper music buttons, your browser actually starts its inbuilt plug-in
or a file type related program on your computer to download and play the music file. easy
to understand: if there's no plug-in or program on your pc, you won't hear any music. to
update your browser you could use the links on my
"about"
page. use the link below to download the popular mp3-player winamp.

story behind my music
well, it must have been around 1992 when a sudden idea plopped into my mind: i'd like to
make my very own music. i had an atari st computer that time (and i still work with it
today). you know, these computers had an inbuilt midi interface to connect to electronic
music devices. i "just" needed keyboards, synthesizers, composing software, lots of cable,
lots of knowledge, a big amp, even bigger speakers and pretty much time to learn how to
perform music without harming the listeners health badly.
it took quite a while to get into the basics of music for me. til now i haven't had any
lessons in piano playing or musical theory. all my experiences i made using the good
old try and error method. and all steps forward (i made steps forward, really) are based
on countless hours of trying and listening combined with friendly neighbors.
how do i create my music? everything starts with an idea. if there's time, i try to fix
it to my mind playing around on my keyboards using different sounds. if i'm okay with it,
i let my atari st computer record it to a track via midi interface. now's time to develop
layers of matching tracks. or matching sounds. or new sounds. also possible, that i'd try
to find matching beats or bass lines that time. it's more an indeterminate than a
systematic work. cause my music is produced from heart and brain together. having enough
matching tracks of sounds and beats i start to stretch all to full song length using copy
and paste. after that, i review the song over and over again changing little details here
and there to provide it with "life". the "living" song is then recorded to my pc harddisc
to be finished using special music postprocessing programs. in the end i burn it on a cd-r
which could be played on any cd player. well, that's the whole secret...
if you're interested to know, the producing of one of my webpage background songs took
about between 2 and 10 hours each. time to produce one of my cd songs is about between 50
and 150 hours.
